Here’s your chance to learn to ride a two-wheeler! Kids of all ages (or grown-ups!) can learn to ride using the tried-and-true “balance bike” method. Start the new year with this FREE opportunity to learn a skill that will last a lifetime!
WHAT: Learn To Ride (a Bicycle, of course!)
WHO: Kids, adults, anyone who doesn’t yet know how to ride a bike
WHERE: 932 Seigle Ave., Charlotte NC 28205 NOTE: This is an indoor venue, so it’s rain or shine!
WHEN: Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 11AM to 1PM
WHY: Because everyone needs to know how to ride a bike!
PUT ON BY: Bicycle Sport, Mecklenburg County Park & Rec and Health Departments and Trips For Kids Charlotte, with help from AARP and Sustain Charlotte.
The event is geared to kids (of all ages!) and parents of kids, who haven’t yet learned to ride a bicycle without training wheels. Parents should bring their kids, their kids’ bikes and helmets. We’ll walk the parents and kids through the process, which is to sign in, check bike and helmet fit, remove training wheels and pedals, and lower the seat so the child can stand comfortably over the bike. We assess whether or not the parent wants us to work with the child alone or with him/her, then show them how to “walk” the bike using their feet. The goal is to get what start as short, halting steps to become longer strides and eventually lifting their feet and coasting…all the while gaining the sensation of what it feels like to balance on a moving bike! When the time’s right, we’ll reinstall the pedals – and turn this “balancing act” into practice with the pedals in motion!
